Why didn't this kill me? Only got 1hp
I was out in the City of Torc'qua farming, using a 600/smite build. After beating it, I was lead into Stygian Veil where I saw a quest that talked about a "near infinite" amount of creatures. Being a 600 tank, I saw potential loot and decided to try it. So I tanked them, and found out that they used touch skills.
OK, cool.. now heres the thing: I noticed while tanking the Stygian Hungers I hit 1hp A LOT of times, nearly 20 times. I even let Prot Spirit and Spirit Bond drop, and yet I was still alive, with 1 hp. The only time I died is when they physically attacked me rather than used their touch skills. Screenshots: |

Hi. i had the occasion of seeing that myself a couple of times. I think it must be some kind of glitch. Its pretty interesting, i think it happens only when you reach that point under the effect of a hex, poison, or some kind of health degenerative spell . Then for a couple of moments nothing happens. First i used to just ctrl click it like crazy , after a while i noticed that it keeps long enough so you can do something about it.
It sounds more radical to you though. 20 times is kinda much. This has to be covered by someone around here by now. these guys.. have the tendency to post much about anything. |

I don't think you can be killed by lifesteal as it's not really considered damage, although it still adds nice DPS to anything since it takes health, just like damage does, lol. But no I don't think you can be killed by life steal itself.

He's got a guardian angel, 'nuff said!
But is it possible that you're just lagging badly? I find that when I have massive lag spikes, all degen and damage stops on me at 1hp, only to kill me when my client catches up with the server. |

Its not a bug, it was just strange luck. The hungers were at low health, and started to use grenths balance on you. You will have been very lucky - they were all at a very low threshold of health so above all other skills they were prefering to use GB on you than anything else, in an attempt to heal. Convinently they had also dropped your health too, at the perfect time. Since its grenths balance - you were neither dying, and they were'nt gaining health either.
You got caught in a strange stalemate, untill the AI tried something else. (probably one of the hungers with more health) EDIT Okay, yeah, this post was full of fail. I didnt even look at the screenshot. The symbiosis dropping thing sounds 20 times more realistic. Last edited by Bill Clinton; Jun 28, 2009 at 11:51 PM // 23:51.. |

Well to me, it looks like you had symbiosis up for a while, then let it drop.
The game thinks of this as you having less than one hp, but the regen keeps you alive. Since life-stealing doesn't cause "damage", it doesn't kill you. Healing, and regular "damage dealing" attacks cause the game to see your health as being altered. Since it is being changed to a number that is below 1, it would kill you. Life stealing however, isn't damage, so it won't kill you. |

LifeStealing is damage. If you don't believe me, 55 farm in an area with rits that use Nightmare Weapon.

Try using protective spirit against it. It doesn't reduce the amount of health lost from the lifestealing skill. |

Only theory I can think is that Succor keeps you alive with it's +1hp regen. Vamp touch only steal 1 hp and for some reason that regen is enough to counter it.

The point is that vamp touch from a lvl 28 monster should kill you if you have 1hp, even at 0 blood magic vampiric touch/bite will steal up to 29hp. Lifesteal is different to damage as it will never exceed the actual current hitpoints at the time of casting. If you have 50hp and are hit with a lvl 0 vampiric touch you will lose 29hp leaving you with 21hp. If you are then hit with a second lvl 0 vampiric touch the maximum lifesteal will be 21hp because that is all the 'life' you have left. The only thing I can think of is that the lifesteal is being calculated before health regeneration from succour is calculated. It is still a bug imo and belongs in the bug section.
